Kirsten Riley Brain and Lung Mass Treatment

Donation protected
On November 14th, I took Kirsten and went to the hospital for a MRI. Preliminary review showed a mass on her brain. We hurried to United Health in St. Paul where they discovered a mass also in her lungs. The plan now is to remove the brain tumor and work forward from there. She cannot form sentences very well and can understand some stuff we’re saying but not a lot. Update- The medication has done well to help bring down the swelling in her brain and she has been able to think and speak far better as a result. It has been a good day. She wasnt able to eat at all Tuesday and most of the day Wednesday but made up for it today . Surgery is still on for Monday, this will be the longest weekend ever. The support is overwhelming and we cant thank you guys enough! Please don’t send flowers as the hospial doesn’t allow flowers in the neuro ICU. This go fund me will help us pay some of her medical bills and to ease some stress off of us. We all thank everyone!

Update- she’s out and recovering. Dr says it went very well. Tumor was at the surface and easy to get at. Pathology later to determine tumor type. Dr says it looks metastatic but we figured that anyway. Radiation to follow within 2 weeks.

Update- Kirstens morning started out a bit rough and sore. However, after a couple hours and a plate of hashbrowns she perked right up. Talking, walking and reflexes on point. Blessed be shredded Yukon gold potatoes. The brain fog is not what it was and seemed to improve by the hour. By noon she was wiped out so she took a nap and we got a bite. Everyone at the hospital is very impressed with her performance and recovery. I have no doubt she will continue to shock and impress them all!

Thanksgiving update- Kirsten is coming home! After 12 days of pure hell, she has recovered well enough to rest at the house. Speech and memory has improved dramatically in just a day. For now, no visitors please. God is good and has blessed us with a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Update- Kirsten went to the clinic today for her first checkup and to hear the results from the biopsy. Non small cell carcinoma of the lungs. They don’t think they need radiation of her head but chemo will start soon in the cities. The diagnosis gives us a few things- Clarity, direction and as weird as it may sound, hope. This type is one of the most common which means common treatment and they have a pretty good handle on it.

Update-  Kirsten met with her Oncology team in St Cloud to develop a treatment plan. The current plan is to start Chemo for her lung mass and Radiation to her brain and to her lung mass. Chemo will be every 3rd week and the Chemo will be 3 days a week. Radiation will be 5 days a week for a total of 30 treatments. For those of us who know Kirsten…she is a very determined person, and that is a great attribute to have!

Update- Good news! CT reveals no further spread of cancer. She will begin treatments by early next week and start kicking ass! We can’t thank you enough for the love and support, it really means a lot!
