On April 11, 2022, I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (aka, Breast Cancer). I began oncology and integrative medicine consultations immediately and started various treatments soon after. Maybe you saw a few social media posts where I’ve got an octopus (my power animal totem) on my head during infusions…

My prognosis is excellent, and the healing process has been…a journey. Each step of the way, I’ve listened to my body, my intuition, and the guidance I receive from my spiritual practice. I also do constant research to make sure I'm making the best possible choices for my overall health and longevity and not just going along with "standard" protocols. Treatments are ongoing and consist of both western and integrative, holistic medicine.

Asking for (and accepting) help can still be a huge growing edge for me. But I’ve come to understand that being a life-long “do-it-all-by-myself” kind of person most likely had a lot to do with where I stand today. The gift of cancer (yeah, I said it) is that I have been invited (okay, more like forced) to “get out of my own way” and allow people who love and care for me to... well…love and care for me. So, while this GoFundMe is an enormous step outside my comfort zone, I will practice what I preach. So, here goes…

I am asking for financial help via this GoFundMe to offset the growing out-of-pocket medical expenses my medical insurance is not covering. These include co-pays, gasoline/travel (the nearest infusion center in my insurance network is 80 miles away). Most of the naturopathic and holistic care (supplements, body/energy work, acupuncture, etc.) helping me get my whole being into energetic balance (without toxic side effects) is not covered by insurance.

During treatment and recovery, I have only been gigging as a guest musical artist and speaker a couple of times per month. One of the chemo meds (which I discontinued) was causing neuropathy in my hands and feet – not so great for a keyboard player. This med also triggered symptoms of Meniere’s Syndrome in my left ear. As a lifelong musician and audio geek, this has often been more disruptive to my daily life and mental health than cancer treatments and recovery.

Yeah. It’s been a journey.

As I regain my strength and stamina (and hearing!) I continue booking in-person and virtual speaking/music gigs into 2023, but the need for cash to cover the bills is immediate.
