Kitchen Talks - A short documentary

Donation protected

Kitchen Talks follows AUGUSTO, a theatre performer, as he prepares for his one-man show that grapples with the the crash of culture, identity, and sexuality as a Venezuelan-Canadian.

Along the way we meet MICHAEL, an outspoken poet travelling across Canada reciting his words to youth to encourage them along the way. TOBY, an HR Consultant with dreams of being a screenwriter, while RODRIGO, a Life Sciences student, pursues medicine. Kitchen Talks is a light-hearted reflection on the commitment to making a dream come true and the vulnerable conversations that rise up after a good meal.

Until now, each stage of production has come together because of the talent and dedication of a small team working together. We've locked picture, and Kitchen Talks is on it's way to being color corrected. Although we have had an unbelievably generous group of peers who have volunteered their time to this project (510 hours to be exact!), in order to bring this story to it's finish we've got some more work to do which includes: original music, sound design, and festival submissions!

We are so close! Our composer is already working away at the original score for the film and we are set to complete the final sound mix by the end of June. But in order to bring this film to its final form byJUNE 30TH we're asking for your support towards:

Sound design fees

Fees for original music

Legal fees and insurance

Festival submission & marketing costs

Kitchen Talks has been a true passion project that grew as we grew. We are so thankful for the advice, the feedback, the favours and utter kindness along the way that have brought this film into being.

From the moment we decided to direct our first short film together, kitchen talks, couch talks, and late night rants in safe company have sustained us in the pursuit of our dreams. We know first hand what it's like to choose to step out

We want this film to show immigrant young adults that they’re not alone in the big cities they live in. They're not alone in their struggles with sexual identity. And especially, that they are not alone with the size of their dreams. We hope that this simple reminder will encourage any immigrant kid to start where they are, to approach their communities and especially their parents with the truth of themselves, their desires and how they want to exist in the world.
