KiteJuntos: A Fundraiser to Uplift a Group of Dominicans in the Small Town of Cabarete
by Julian & Vicente Santos
Join us in helping eight deserving young Dominican men further their pursuit of kiteboarding instruction as a career by helping build the scholarship fund that will pay for their International Kiteboarding Association (IKO) instructor certification.
The small town of Cabarete, Dominican Republic has kiteboarding tourism at the center of its economy, which runs off the work of local young men and women who are passionate about kitesurfing and that aspire to teach it for a living. Having a certification from the IKO opens up better work opportunities for these instructors. This certification is something that, unfortunately, many passionate kiteboarders in Cabarete cannot afford.
Why is this important?
We have been spending time in Cabarete for the past few months and have been humbled by the passion and dedication of this small community of local kiteboarders who love this sport and spend hours on the beach every day teaching it, assisting fellow kiteboarders and making sure everyone in the water is safe. Our goal is to help give back to this amazing community of kiters. For a young Dominican, the difference between being able to pay for a kite instructor certification and not is absolutely life-changing, so please join us and help provide scholarships that can truly change a life for the better.
What?
We collaborated with IKO , InspireDR , We Love Kiteboarding and Kite Club Cabareteto identify an initial group of eight deserving local kiteboarders who need support paying for their IKO course certification fee. IKO has generously waived part of their fees and, together with KiteClub Cabarete, will offer a course at the beginning of April, 2021 to give this group a chance to be certified instructors.
Your help is important now, more than ever!
Tourism has taken a hit in Cabarete due to the pandemic. Fewer people are traveling and many local kite instructors are struggling to get students.
Your donation will help these young men get their IKO Instructor certification, which is key to getting students and securing a good job at a local kite school.
Whether you can donate $930 to sponsor a candidate or $20 to get us closer to our overall fundraising goal that will allow us to pay for this class this time around and repeat the process with a new set of candidates later in the year, and potentially more. Each donation big and small helps these young men realize their dream of becoming a kiteboard instructor and get a job that can change their lives for the better.
