Georgios Klironomos Family

Writing this with very heavy hearts, our dear friend and colleague, Dr. Georgios Klironomos, passed suddenly while visiting his family in Greece on August 24, 2023. Given the tremendous amount of pain with which we are left because of this news, we cannot fathom how his wife, Maria, and his 8 year-old daughter, Danae, are feeling. To help support his surviving family, we ask you to consider any contribution you may be able to afford as Maria and Danae navigate this difficult time in their lives.
George, also known affectionately as “Georgie” and “GK,” was a loving husband and father, a brilliant neurosurgeon, a hilarious friend, and a caring human. As he worked to become fellowship trained in both skull base neurosurgery and cerebrovascular surgery, he has served as a mentor throughout the world: from the University of Patras, Toronto, Pennsylvania, and most recently on Long Island in Bay Shore at South Shore University Hospital.
Many often looked up to him for his guidance at work. He was a talented neurosurgeon, yet humble and down-to-earth. He developed relationships with everyone, no matter their title. He is fondly remembered by all as having a twinkle in his eye while he walked around in his scrubs on the second floor, looking to book his many cases. He would call or text every PA that was on to ask how his postoperative patients were doing. Without even trying, he always was able to make everyone hysterically laugh with his reactions, mannerisms, and jokes.
Dr. Klironomos loved talking about his wife and daughter, especially about how he and Danae were progressing with their taekwondo classes. He was always in trouble with his daughter for staying late at the hospital, and he always had to promise her an ice cream or park date later in the week.
His love for Greece and Greek culture was unmatched, especially prior to leaving us to visit his family. George would show us photos of his home country, including his and his wife’s small home towns, Talanta, and Monemvasia. The small sliver of peace we have is that he was able to spend the last two weeks of his life with his loved ones.
We are forever grateful to have had Georgios as a mentor, teacher, and colleague, and even more importantly, as one of our very best friends. He will forever be missed.
