KL's Gender Revolution

Hey Folks,

KL here. Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and hear my story. Something about my fund-raiser title must have resonated with you, so I want to say, Welcome!

I’m a 55-year-old trans person from regional Victoria, Australia, and my journey toward self-discovery began in 2018 when I first heard the term "gender non-conforming" ... I got goose-bumps!

The gender-fuckery I had always embraced within safe spaces and the figures I admired in the 80s music scene, were all part of a broader realisation: I am valid.

As someone living with a disability my entire life, I face financial limitations and as we know, revolutions aren’t cheap!

Living in a body that doesn’t align with your gender is a constant battle. It feels like wearing a costume that never comes off, even when you’re at home. It’s exhausting!

I believe visibility and advocating for our rights is crucial in the face of hate campaigns and harmful rhetoric from media and politicians

As I’m now 55, the window for undergoing these surgeries becomes increasingly urgent. While gender-affirming surgeries can be life-changing at any age, the physical toll of waiting longer—especially with the health challenges I face—means that recovery and healing become more complex as I get older.
But I need your help to get there.

In the past 3 years, I’ve undergone multiple surgeries to improve my quality of life and health outcomes. I have lost almost half my body weight in 2.5 years, which feels like a huge victory.

The downside is that my skin is sagging, my chest has deflated, and more areas of my body trigger body dysphoria. I’ve been binding my chest for over 5 years, which has put a strain on my spinal disability making it even harder to manage.

This is where you can help.

I’m in the process of raising funds for the two Gender Affirming Surgeries (GAS) that are essential for my physical and emotional well-being. Unfortunately, I am not eligible for private health insurance, so these surgeries are all out-of-pocket expenses.
Here are the costs:
  • Surgeon, hospital, and anaesthetist: $14,000 - $15,000
  • Medicare rebate: approximately $1,100
  • Surgeon, hospital, and anaesthetist: $17,000 - $18,000
  • Medicare rebate: approximately $1,030

*I've included hyper-links to images of a surgeon who’s done incredible work and advocacy in the field of GAS based in the US, so results may vary in Australia.

I completely understand that the cost of living is tough for many right now. If you can contribute financially, it would mean the world to me. If you can’t, sharing this page with your network would be just as valuable.

But this isn’t just about my personal gender revolution. Every trans and gender diverse person who makes themselves visible helps make the world a safer place for those who are unable to be out or are still questioning. Visibility Matters to the young who don't see themselves growing older, to the older people who are still in the closet, I want my visibility to be a beacon of hope.

As a thank you, I’ll send a handwritten card or shout-out on social media to everyone who donates—because you’re helping make this revolution happen, and I want you to know just how much that means to me.

Thank you for reading, and for supporting me in this part of my journey.

Welcome to the Revolution!
