My first documentary film, Essential Arrival- Michigan’s 21st Century Indian Immigrants was very well received, and I am grateful to all those who provided support. I’d like to continue the effort to promote cultural understanding in our society, and am now working on a followup documentary film, which will focus on Sikhs in America. I hope you will consider donating to make this followup film a reality.
Sikhism is the fifth-largest religion in the world, counting about 25 million followers around the world. But, especially in recent America, and especially in recent years, Sikhs have been greatly misunderstood. Most people simply do not know who they are as people. Given that, there are sometimes false assumptions about Sikhs being Arabs or Muslims, due to their turbans and beards. This ignorance has resulted in prejudice and even hate crimes against Sikhs, particularly since the September 11 attacks.
I hope with this documentary film will educate our fellow Americans about who Sikhs really are as people and highlight the basics of their religion and culture.
Like my first documentary project, this film has been entirely self-financed to this point. However, I will need to raise funds to complete the filming and post-production process.
Essential Arrival was very well received, both here in America and in India. It was screened at film festivals in Michigan, Mumbai and New Delhi. I am thankful to all the people who helped me raise funds for Essential Arrival, and I hope to receive similar support to complete this film as well.
