The Legacy
As part of this celebration, all proceeds from the concert at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen on Sunday 20th October, along with all donations and will be used to create a series of lasting tributes and uphold a permanent legacy in the great name of Robbie Shepherd M.B.E.
The legacies below, have been carefully selected by Robbie’s friends and family to remember Robbie and to celebrate and promote the many rich areas of his life, professional career, and values, for which he was so highly regarded across the length and breadth of Scotland.
All donations will be most gratefully received.
The Dunecht Loon Cairn
A granite memorial cairn will be erected on Dunecht Estate near Robbie’s home village as a permanent tribute to his life and work in Aberdeenshire.
The Robbie Shepherd Sweet Pea Garden
Using perennial plants, a display at Cruickshank Botanical Garden, University of Aberdeen will be created to remember Robbie Shepherds love of gardening, featuring Robbie’s favorite flower the Sweet Pea. In conjunction with this project there will be collaboration on the development of a new sweet pea variety to be named Robbie Shepherd M.B.E.
The Robbie Shepherd Annual Doric Verse Award
An endowment to establish an annual open Doric poetry competition, administrated and awarded by The Buchan Heritage Society and supported by the Press & Journal
Voice of The Highland Games Award
An annual award for the most promising young competitor across the Grampian Highland Games season. The annual award will be cross-discipline, covering all aspects of the Games (Heavy Events, Athletics, Piping & Drumming and Highland Dancing) and awarded by The Grampian Games Association
The Robbie Shepherd Traditional Scottish Music and Song Bursary at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
A fund to create a new bursary scholarship at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, awarded annually to encourage young musicians in the traditional music and song courses
Robbie Shepherd Annual Bursary for contributions to North East studies, lore and language at The Elphinstone Institute, The University of Aberdeen
An annual bursary awarded to a Scottish born Student undertaking studies related to the culture of the North East of Scotland
