Help save Bailey’s life.

Sal and I adopted Bailey from a local rescue in February of 2019. From the moment we brought her home, she had serious health complication including diarrhea, malnutrition and an inability to gain weight. We took to our local vet who tested her for a number of issues including pancreatitis, Addison’s i, parasites etc. After weeks of testing and treatment, our little fighter was still skin and bones. He referred us to Greater Staten Island Veterinary Services, who did ultrasounds, bloodwork, X-rays, the works. We still didn’t have answers. They referred us to Animal Medical Center where Bailey had exploratory surgery to check for an internal explanation for her symptoms, but sadly the results were inconclusive. She was skin and bones, really a Skelton with fur, but we wouldn’t give up on. We have her endless snuggles, unlimited kisses and tried everything to save her life. Miraculously we ended up finding a food that worked for her and she ended up gaining weight. Soon she could do things normal dogs do. She discovered a love for tug-o-war toys, salmon snacks, and even got to dress up for Halloween. She became the best big dog sister in 2021 to our younger dog, Heffy. They became the pawfect duo, going on walks together and taking the dog park by storm. Last night, September 13th, I came home from work to find Bailey lethargic, and not willing to eat. Anyone who knows Bailey, knows she has NEVER turned down a meal and has always had a veracious appetite. We rushed her to the emergency vet but we’re sent home with pain medicine and told she was probably experiencing abdominal discomfort. We took her home and she slept on the hardwood floor all night, unable to get comfortable. She still was not eating. We rushed her back to vet where her blood work came back highly irregular which made her team suspect Addisons Disease pending an ultrasound. Her ultrasound results were CATASTROPHIC. She has no blood flow to her spleen, abnormal liver and a septic abdomen. Our only options were to put her to sleep or rush her to Tinto Falls, NJ for surgery. We were devastated. How could this happen to our little fighter? We prepared to humanely put her to sleep, and I prayed to St. Jude, patron saint of lost causes, for help. Like Danny Thomas did when founding St. Jude, I asked him to show me my way. Sal and I are over come with the feeling that we could not put her to sleep. We decided to rush her to surgery and figure the cost out later. I write this as we travel down the Garden State Parkway to give Bailey her best shot. If you love me and Sal, you know how much she means to us. I am hoping you will consider contributing anything you can to help us cover her care.
