Face Surgery & Recovery Fund For Jas
Donation protected
This is a fundraiser for my friend Jas Alexander. Early morning on October 19th, 2019, her life was changed. She and I were on our way to volunteer at a wrestling tournament in Waterloo, Iowa. About halfway through, tragedy struck and the car we were in went off the road and flipped multiple times. Miraculously, I came out of the crash with only minor injuries. She did not. She had to get pried out of the car by multiple firefighters and paramedics and was almost immediately life-flighted by helicopter to the hospital in Des Moines.
She was rushed into surgery for very serious injuries on her face. On my way to the hospital to go see her, I was almost certain that I had lost one of my best friends. When I got there, they had already started surgery on her and I was in a very tough spot where all I could do was wait and pray and hope. The head surgeon eventually came out after what seemed like forever and told us the news: miraculously, her brain was untouched. They had to do extensive face surgery and they were going to keep her in the hospital for a few days while she recovered.
Since then, she has had another surgery and more are planned in the future. Aside from her face being completely shattered, she also broke her eye sockets, heavily affecting her vision, and broke multiple teeth.
Her road to recovery has not been the easiest, but Jas is a warrior and has handled this better than most would. Even while still in the hospital, she found ways to make everyone in the room laugh, smile, and stay positive with her hopeful and sassy attitude. It has been very inspiring to see her progress through this.
This fundraiser is to help offset the costs of many things. She currently has bills from multiple hospitals, for multiple surgeries, for the helicopter ride (which she was very sad to find out she wasn't awake to experience), eye doctor bills, dentist bills, and more. On top of that, her mother instantly flew out to be with her during the past month and a half and was out of work for that entire time to help take care of her. Her boyfriend consistently made the 2-hour drive back and forth from his college to be with her as much as he could. All donations received in this campaign will go directly to Jas!! (And yes, she has instruance, but no that will not cover even close to everything.)
This was Jas's senior year of college, and she was on the Grand View women's wrestling team. She transferred here to chase her dreams but after this car accident, there's a high chance that she doesn't wrestle again... Despite this, she still supports the girl's team with all of her heart. She was on her way to volunteer at a wrestling tournament and give back to a sport that means so much to her. Now, I am hoping the wrestling community, amongst many others, can give back to her.
