Supporting health and wellness with Knitting
Project Knitwell is an organization that serves more parents of sick kids, cancer patients, nurses and other caregivers, those affected by homelessness, at-risk teens, refugees, and others for whom knitting can provide a wellness tool.
They do this with research about knitting as a wellness tool and community outreach. 90% of the funds I raise here will be donated to them and will go towards these projects:
$1,000 will sponsor a new site
$500 will provide 6 months of group materials
$250 will sponsor 3 months of volunteer training
$100 will provide 4 knitting kits with instruction

I’ve been knitting for 20 years and teaching knitting or providing knitting help for 15 years. I believe it to be a powerful wellness tool, and I would love your support to this organization to help increase their reach which is much needed now.
Knitting is Fun, Joy brings Wellness
I also want to have a little fun along the way, because knitting also brings joy, and you can enjoy it vicariously. So here’s the project and the story about it that 10% of your gift will go towards:
At my LYS (local yarn store), the owner and my friends at our biweekly knit night saw this knitting pattern and immediately thought of me. We all agreed making this would be my "magnum opus" for the year, following up two other black and white checkered patterns I've completed (inspired by the show "Wednesday" and Addams Family character's wardrobe).
Additionally, this pattern resonates with my work combining knitting and astrology, and my love for the Tarot - "Fortuna's Wheel" corresponding to the Wheel of Fortune card.
This is a larger garment, and ideally I could purchase the cotton/alpaca Santi II yarn the pattern calls for to complete it. It requires _thousands_ of yards of yarn. 10% of the proceeds will go towards purchasing yarn to make this project.
For Your Contribution:
If you contribute, anticipate getting to "come along for the knitting journey" where I will keep you updated on the progress of me completing this pattern, wearing the outfit in public, and possibly also creating some matching accessories (thinking hat, fingerless gloves).
I will also reach out to Project Knitwell about the donation (90% of your gift) and update you on what I hear from them, as well as sharing stories about knitting wellness along the way. Stay tuned for more details of how to access that!
