KNOWLEDGE IS LIGHT: HOPE FOR MALAWI’S CHILDREN
Welcome to the GofundMe page for ‘Knowledge is Light: Hope for Malawi’s Children’. Our aim is to help provide the next generation a safer and secure future by offering a safe haven and quality education across the country.
According to many sources, Malawi remains one of the poorest countries in the world, with basic living conditions and education a daily struggle for most families. Originally we started charity work in Malawi over 15 years ago, and it became our mission to bring about change and empower children by providing them a nurturing environment to not only live, but inspire and flourish. The charity is registered in the UK since 2019, reg. number 1175162. Some of our projects include, but are not limited to, schools, nurseries, orphanages, hospitals, places of worship, small businesses and water bores. Knowledge is Light serves as a beacon of hope to the poorest communities in the region, and the many children within them. These children, are often sadly orphaned or coming from households unable to provide basic needs (see photo of how the children arrive). They rely on our foundation not just for education but for food, shelter, and the loving care and guidance needed to build a brighter future.
The foundation runs several boarding schools and orphanages across 3 regions. In Ntaja, there is a boarding school which houses 300 girls who are either orphans or from an extremely poor background. There is also a separate all boys boarding school which accommodates 70 young boys. In Mangochi, we run a boarding school and a newly built orphanage which will house 50 boys aged between 5 and 11. Finally, in Balaka there is a boarding school and orphanage that looks after 150 and 53 boys respectively.
Our boarding schools are more than just places to learn. For many of our students, it is the only home they know. Here, they receive not just an education, but the care and stability that is essential for their growth and development. However, Malawi is not estranged to rising costs and inflation. Whether it be food, building material or basic amenities, these institutes are becoming extremely difficult to maintain and in order to keep providing the services that Knowledge is Light has been serving these deprived children with, we need your help and support. Your contribution, no matter the amount, can help work towards a brighter future for these communities and hope for Malawi’s children.
This is also zakat eligible for the orphans, but you must declare this on the comments section of your donation. This will ensure your donation is used accordingly.
