Hi, my name is Susan and I am the aunt of Kelly Oberlender. I am creating this Go Fund Me page for him. Kelly has been very ill for several months. This started out with him being unable to walk very well, he has broken out with rashes, his body hurts all over. Kelly developed a bump on the side of his nose close to his eye. This bump caused swelling and his eye was almost all the way closed. He has been to different hospitals both took x-rays one hospital advised us that he had an infection that could get into his brain they sent him home with antibiotics, the next hospital told us he had a broken nose. Kelly hadn’t done anything to cause a broken nose. We were blessed by an ear nose and throat Dr. that looked at his x-rays and put a scope inside his nose. The Dr told us that he has a tumor and he needed a biopsy. Kelly’s brother Robert found some insurance for him and was advised if this came back as cancer he would be covered because he has not been diagnosed with cancer at this time. On November 20th Kelly went in for his biopsy our worst fears came true. The Dr advised us that he was almost certain it was cancer. On November 22nd we received the news that Kelly has T Cell Lymphoma Cancer. The type that Kelly has is rare and very aggressive. We where very upset hearing this news because cancer is a very scary word. He has insurance so that helped with some of the worries. One Dr after another has told us they are unable to see him for 3 to 4 weeks as well as the insurance would have at least a 30 day wait for approval. One Drs office after Drs Office told us that his insurance would not cover him. After speaking with the insurance company several times, they advised that Kelly wasn’t covered for cancer treatment. In order for Kelly to be covered for cancer treatments he would have to be on this policy for a year.

Kelly’s Dr advised that he can not wait he needs treatment as soon as possible. The Oncologist is $400 just to  walk into the office and speak with the. Dr.  His brother Robert was proactive in  paying for insurance so he would have one less worry.  Now that  the insurance has failed  us we have no other choice except take  him to a Dallas Hospital to see if they can see him. His medical expenses and travel expenses are going to be very high. During this time, we will continue to look for medical coverage for him.
