Kobayashi Family Fire Relief Fund
Spende geschützt
On the evening of October 21, a devastating fire broke out inside the Kobayashi family home in Saitama, Japan. It took the lives of three people, left one injured, and destroyed the family’s entire livelihood. We’re asking our community for their support, to help the survivors cover basic essential needs as they struggle to move forward from this tragedy.
Musician Takamasa Kobayashi, known as the drummer for popular indie-rock band Boys Age, received the earth-shattering news while at work in Berlin. His father Osamu and both of his grandparents Taiko and Sadahiro died in the fire that burned for eight hours before being extinguished. Taka’s younger brother Hisatoshi was also in the building, but was saved by a firefighter and admitted to hospital with oxygen deficiency. When Taka’s mother and sister returned to what was once their home, the two-story building was reduced to rubble.
Mrs. Kobayashi works part-time as a sales assistant; her daughter Yoko has struggled to find employment since leaving her job in the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The family’s material assets and savings have been lost in the fire. Not only did they lose their loved ones, but are left without a safety net to carry them into the future.
We’re aware that these are challenging times for everyone and are grateful for your support. All donations will help cover immediate necessities (including winter clothes, medicine, and hotel accommodations), funeral expenses, and tuition for Hisatoshi, who is enrolled in special education. Thank you for your generosity.
