At least 59 people have been killed and more than 150 injured in a devastating fire at a packed nightclub in Kocani in Macedonia. The blaze erupted at the Pulse club at about 2am on Sunday, March 16th, during a concert by the band DNK when pyrotechnics were set off inside the venue. This is a huge tragedy not just for such a small town, but for the whole country. Families have lost loved ones between the ages of 14 and 25 years and many survivors are facing serious medical challenges. One of the witnesses said: “Here, on the side of the road, many parents are still searching for their children.”
We beseech the community of Sts. Kiril & Metodi Macedonian Orthodox Church in Chicago, the entire Macedonian diaspora, and all well meaning individuals or entities to contribute any amount you can spare (big or small) to remedy some of the suffering. We can't do anything to lessen the pain, but we can still demonstrate our solidarity as a community by providing assistance to the families that lost loved ones, and in some cases even sole providers, as well as, survivors that will be facing medical expenses on their painful and long process of rehabilitation.
