Kody compete at JDC JNR World Darts Championships

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kody Lane, I am 16 years old and live in Melbourne, Victoria.
I have been competing in darts for about 5 years now and play three nights a week in A Grade whilst successfully doing Year 11 at the College of Arts and Technology where I am majoring in Photography.

I have achieved a lot goals so far in my short career in darts but there are a couple that mean the most to me:

Representing Victoria in the Australian Junior Championships 2020 in Perth. Being presented with my VIC shirt was a day I will always remember, I wore it with pride in Perth and was inspired to play my best darts and received 4 awards:
4th in the Pacific Master
5th Highest Female average
Female highest peg of 129
2020 Australian Rookie of the Year

Trying out and making the Australia JDC team 2022. I have dreamt of pulling on the Green and Gold shirt since I was about 11 or 12 years old and finally my dreams have come true. This is not only a personal achievement for me but also to all the people along the way who saw the potential I had and encouraged and supported me to achieve this monumental goal. The teams I have played in with Northern Darts Association, Metropolitan Dart League and Werribee District Darts Association you have all helped me achieve this goal.

Winning my first Grand Final at 11 years old. Not long after I started playing darts my Dad passed away suddenly, the night before he died I won my very first Grand Final. That night changed my life completely. It was a massive milestone for my darts but it was also the last conversation I had with my Dad ‘Telling him I had played the winning leg of our Grand Final’. Now I am not only saying this so people will donate because they feel sorry for me, to be honest darts has helped get me through my grief. The one thing I have learnt is Life is too short to not achieve your goals. I live by the motto if you believe in yourself and put in the hard work you will achieve your goals.

I have been fortunate to have wonderful continued sponsorship over the years from:

Southern Sons Transport took a chance on me as a young girl who played and was so passionate about the game of Darts.

Ian Dargan and Team Rebel, Ian you saw a young girl who had talent and most of all passion for a future in darts. The Team Rebel family welcomed me with open arms and the guys have been so supportive throughout all of my achievements. I am so excited for the journey ahead to reach more goals Ian and I have for my future. Thanks Ian ‘Boss’ you are amazing.

Dart World Australia gave my Mum a call when I returned from Perth in 2020 and they offered me to be one of their Junior Sponsored players. Words cannot express how much this meant to me. Simon Kellett, Andy Round, Jeff Hutcheon and Troy Gray you have been instrumental in me getting where I am today. The advice and training you have given me has been amazing and I am so glad to be part of the Dart World Australia family and look forward to working with you all for many more years to come.

Borgs Automatics and Power Steering since the beginning you have asked after my adventures in darts every time Mum got her car serviced, last year you sponsored me and keep Mum’s car running so I can get to darts all over Victoria. Thank you for all your support

Lastly I would like to tell you how I got into Darts, when I was 10 ½ years old I went along to watch my Mum play one night and a man called Bart Mineo got me up in between games to have a throw. He was the first person that believed in me and saw potential in my darts. Bart was battling cancer at the time and won the battle the first time but unfortunately a couple of years later lost the battle the second time. If it wasn’t for Bart encouraging me to play with his team the following season I would not be here today with the opportunity to travel to Gibraltar to represent Australia in the JDC World Junior Darts Championships. Thank you Bart….

Thank you for taking the time to read this if you are in a situation that you could donate it would be greatly appreciated in helping me finally achieve the biggest goal of all to wear my Green and Gold shirt in Gibraltar
