Kōkua for Uncle Ipo: Help Us Honor His Sweetheart’s Final Wish

Dear Friends, Family, and Community,

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Tiana Stephanie-Leilani Ching (Spencer) of Nanakuli, childhood sweetheart and beloved wife of Uncle Ipo, a Hualalai Landscaping employee. Tiana passed away on September 17th after a brave and long battle with cancer. Together, Ipo and Tiana had 3 sons and 1 daughter.

Uncle Ipo is not only a cherished member of the Hualalai 'Ohana, but also a navigator on the legendary Hokule’a voyaging canoe in the 1970s and a master fisherman, deeply connected to his culture and his family. For over 20 years at Hualalai, Uncle Ipo has shared his stories of fishing, hunting, and the old ways of Hawai’i, making him a true staple of our community and 'ohana. More than anything, Uncle Ipo lives the values of what community is about. Looking out for one another, helping others in need, and bringing the occasional fish or fruit from the garden when get plenty!

Now, as he faces this heartbreaking loss, we’re coming together to support him. Uncle Ipo’s wish is to bring Tiana home to Nanakuli, where her ashes will be spread alongside their son’s, who passed away many years ago. This GoFundMe will help cover funeral and travel expenses to honor this final wish. Uncle Ipo's daughter, Hokulii Roberts, is designated beneficiary on his behalf.
