Kolton Kunz Cancer Fund

Donation protected
Friends, I am reaching out for help and support for a family in need. Kolton Kunz, a senior at Mankato Loyola High School, son of Shawn and Brenda Kunz, was recently diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma. He is currently undergoing treatment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. The treatment requires Kolton to be in the hospital during treatment. He has already started chemo in Rochester; His treatment is a vigorous treatment that includes two days in the hospital and then the following week, 1 day and the following week; he has to be in the hospital for five days. This treatment continues for 12 weeks. He is scheduled for Jaw reconstructive surgery in May and then will continue with the chemotherapy for another 17 weeks in Rochester. Kolton has been continuing to go to school when he feels up to it, and the plan is to graduate in May. He has plans to attend Ridgewater College in Willmar to play basketball when he recovers from this battle. Shawn is a cancer survivor himself (a completely different type of cancer) and continues to help his community by serving as the Medical Officer on the St. Clair Fire Department. Within a couple of weeks, Shawn and Brenda will be out of paid time off at their jobs, and anytime that will be taken for Kolton's treatment will be unpaid time off.
Donations are being requested to help his family with travel costs, including fuel, food, lodging and missed work, while Kolton is in Rochester for his weekly chemo treatment. The family has contacted the Ronald Mcdonald House and other options in Rochester, but it is very difficult to get into while he has treatments due to the waiting list and tremendous need for them from other families going through medical treatments.

Kolton will make it through this battle, but it will be a challenging year both financially and physically for Kolton and his family as they fight this battle. He has set up a CaringBridge site for anyone who would like to follow his journey to recovery.
The family would like to thank the community for its support in this battle of a lifetime.
