-Facebook update from Kolton and Lindsie:
Hi this is Kolton and Lindsie. We just wanted to give everyone an update on what has happened to us the last few weeks. More than anything we want to say thank you to all of our friends and family for all of the support and love you guys have shown us since our accident.
On march 15th just after midnight we were hit by a wrong-way driver on the I-15 near lamb and the speedway in Las Vegas Nevada. We were taken immediately from the accident to UMC hospital where Kolton was immediately taken into surgery.
Kolton broke his femur in 2 places, broke his tibia, fibia, knee, one rib, and a fractured ankle. He has had 3 surgeries up to this point adding rods to his leg, adding in donor portions to his knee, and taking muscle from his right thigh and using it to replace muscle to his left calf that he lost during the accident. Over his time at the hospital he’s had 28 platelets of blood and 14 platelets of plasma. At this point we are just grateful Kolton got to keep his left leg at all he is in the best trauma center in a 5 state perimeter. Tomorrow April 3rd should be his last surgery to fix his ankle and get skin grafts done to finialize his left leg. Soon after we hope that he can work towards making it back home to St.George!
Lindsie came to UMC with a fractured pelvis, tailbone, lacerated foot, lacerated kidney, and fractured C1 (spine). Luckily they determined it would worse to operate on lindsie than it would to just let her try to heal on her own. She stayed at UMC for 8 days where she slept for most of those days doing her best to heal through her trauma. After that point she got released and sent to a rehab center in St.George and has been there ever since. The physical therapists have deteremined around 3-4 weeks of pyhsical therapy before she can go home.
The future:
Kolton:
He won’t be able to put any weight on his left leg for 6 weeks out of the hospital. After 6 weeks we will try at home physical therapy where he will have to relearn how to walk. It won’t be a short road but more than anything he’s happy that one day he will be able to walk, run, and jump again. Doctors have said it’ll take about 1.5-2 years before that point but he’s ready to make that journey.
Lindsie:
She has to keep a neck brace on for the next 8 weeks. She will be working on walking again through her injuries in her pelvis and tailbone which aren’t short term injuries by any means.
Finally we just want to say how grateful we are to be alive after such a terrible accident and we are so grateful to have all of our limbs and have the potential to heal from this.
Once again we want to say thank you to all of you as our support system we couldn’t of done it without you guys. We want to say a a special thank you to our parents Joe, Kelly, Sandra, and Mark for everything they’ve done for us. They have literally been by our sides since the accident. It hasn’t been easy for us to be apart but I also want to say a special thanks to FaceTime haha for keeping us together through this!
Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers because we have definitely felt them! We are going to attach the gofundme that was started after the accident happened if you would like to donate.
-03/20 4:00PM Kolton’s surgery is going well and he’s doing really good! 2 more hours of surgery today. Lindsie is eating and moving, these guys are doing awesome! Great day ❤️
-03/20: As of this morning this is the latest update... the ortho surgeon told Kelly that the surgery would be finished at 4:00PM If they need to do more they'll come out then and update her they'll be in there longer. Kolton’s scan showed a fractured ankle which they won't do today. They didn’t have a rod long enough for his femur which was an issue before. (Talk guy problems) but they found one, yay! He has bones missing in his knee. They will put a plate and screws below the knee to attach the tibia/fibula to.... they will attach new tendons. His nerve in his leg/knee is attached and they were surprised but it is sleeping they said. His foot will drop unless it awakens but they hope it will regenerate in time. He will need more surgeries. They want to graft his calf skin as it works better with the blood vessels. Hopefully from his injured leg but if not.. his other calf. Not too much grafting today but plastic surgeon there with them.
-03/17: Lindsie is out of ICU and has a C1 fracture. Her tailbone and pelvis is broken. They are hoping for no surgery and correct with bracing. Kolton’s still in ICU. He just got out of his second surgery on his left leg which is entirely broken. His femur, knee, tibia, fibula and ankle. He has broken ribs, bruised lung, he was on a ventilator but has been breathing on his own. Kolton will have several more surgeries in the coming days.
03/15: My sweet family was shaken as last night my cousin Kolton Waggoner and his wife Lindsie Waggoner suffered a tragic car accident. They were hit by a wrong way driver on the Las Vegas, NV speedway. The driver fled the scene of the accident. This careless driver stole the good samaritan’s car who had stopped to help my family and left the scene of the accident. We are grateful they are alive. This selfish being has left them fighting for their lives. They would never ask for anything so I will ask for them. They will have a long road of recovery and will need any and all of the support they can get. They are a beautiful, loving, hard working couple who would do anything for the people they love. The details I don’t have perfect- but they have neck, pelvic, femoral, rib, heart and lung injuries. I hear that Lindsie is doing amazing. She’s out of surgery and is even smiling. Kolton is on a ventilator and we are praying that God will protect and heal them. We want to thank the brave people who got them to UMC, all of the wonderful healthcare workers and the many friends and family these two have. Please keep them in your prayers and donate if you are able.
