Hi my name is David Sparrow and I am fundraising for Roman and Danil Kovenkov, Russian brothers who are twins. These two young 22-year-olds are courageous. Two years ago while protesting the undemocratic behaviour of Putin's dictatorship, they were arrested in Red Square, Moscow, given a hefty fine, expelled from the University of Moscow and had all future educational prospects denied them. When they discovered they were under the surveillance of the Federal Security Service (previously KGB) of the Russian Federation they realized that life in Russia would be impossible for them. They were threatened that they were not permitted to leave and if they did so they would face a minimum of 15 years in a Federal prison.

The sought asylum from the UNHCR in Poland and were granted refugee status by the Polish government. Within the first week of their stay in Poland, their landlord kicked them to the curb when he discovered they were Russian. Their country of birth resulted in every door being slammed in their face with each job search. Coming to terms with their situation they moved to Switzerland hoping it would be more welcoming as a neutral country. Unfortunately, they found a similar reaction to themselves as they found in Poland. They went to Germany where they were placed in a refugee warehouse with the most sparse of conditions. The German government was obliged to deport them back to Poland in terms of the EU Dublin agreement which took place at the end of June 2023.

They are currently facing the same challenges as before in Poland.

While in Germany they reached out to 300+ churches in Canada to ask for sponsorship in the private sponsorship program. That's where I got involved. As I realized these two brothers were in between a rock and a hard place, where nobody in the world wanted them, I realized we as Canadians reach the afflicted, rejected people of this planet.

The purpose of this Go Fund Me is to help raise the funds needed to form a Group of 5 that will sponsor the two brothers to Canada. This is the only hope they have. Will you like me, embrace them and donate toward our goal of $22,000 to help them through their first year in Canada?
