UPDATE :
Please continue to follow Kory‘s journey… He is scheduled to return to Florida March 5, 2024 for removal of all external equipment in his legs and at the same time, he will have a correction of bilateral genu valgus which is a knock knee deformity …
Please also keep our family in your prayers while we navigate a new path in life due to the loss of Kory‘s Aunt, Darlene Kosinski who has been a tremendous support throughout his 9 year journey for correction and limb lengthening for dwarfism … she will be dearly missed…
FINAL SURGERY 01/24/2023… WE ARE ALMOST THERE
My son has Achondroplasia, the most common form of dwarfism severely affecting his limbs among most other parts of his skeletal system … All updates on his final correction can be followed on: Facebook Kory Kosinski Dwarfism
Kory began his journey of limb lengthening/correction in 2015 …this January 24, 2023 will be his final lengthening/correction procedure … We want to thank you all for your continued support and your encouraging words as he muscles through yet another challenging time! Kory’s decision to complete an uncomfortable yet remarkably successful multi step procedure shows he has great courage, determination, self-discipline
and commitment… he knows this will require time away from his home and his friends, social activities and the typical fun that a 14-year-old boy would otherwise have! Surgery will be a little different this time around … we are including a correction to his right femur which has a .56-inch discrepancy while at the same time breaking all 4 leg segments (6 bones to include femurs, tibias and fibulas) … remove old rods and replace them with 4 new 8 cm telescoping rods which will be magnetically pulled apart 4 times a day … this process is called the “distraction” phase … While we are magnetically separating the bone segments very slowly new bone and soft tissue will regenerate and fill in the gap…This will be his largest bone growth he will ever receive in 1 surgery! We have also decided to move forward with a big toe reconstruction on both of his feet at the same time! … a person with achondroplasia/dwarfism is at higher risk for complications with anesthesia than the average person, therefore we have chosen to do all 3 corrections at one time lowering the risk … We very much appreciate your kind words, encouraging phrases, and your support to get through yet another difficult time… We are almost there, the journey is almost over, and we cannot wait till we can say “WE DID IT AND WE ARE DONE!”❤️
Kory being an excellent candidate for this procedure has completed 3 of 4 planned procedures, the first in 2015 which enabled him to grow 3” in each tibia and femur, giving him a total of 6” of new bone growth in just 11 weeks ...
Kory’s 2nd procedure was a 4 segment leg lengthening which began on May 6, 2020 for femurs & May 21, 2020 for tibias with a lengthy 20 week stay in West Palm Beach, Florida at the Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute ... another 6 inches of new bone growth in his legs … He has gained a total of 12 inches of new bone in his legs… To date he stands just under 4’9” tall … without these procedures he would stand 3’9” tall today …
Kory’s 3rd procedure began June 21, 2021 where he underwent a bilateral upper arm lengthening for 5 inches of new bone growth … This took approximately 10 months to complete… In February 2022 he had the external apparatus removed and began to use his arms… This is a life changer for him to be able to reach things without assistance, a whole world for him!
This bright handsome young boy has asked if he will get the full 4 procedures. I unequivocally said YES, you will. I promised him a life of happiness, confidence and the ability to do for himself, the same chance at life that his 3 siblings already have. The correction is available for him, will you please help us help him.
Most of this procedure is covered by insurance however the extended-stay is not and neither are the 130 visits of physical therapy among numerous other outof pocket expenses…
There are numerous articles on the website about my son, feel free to search Google and Poststar.com and type Kory Kosinski Dwarfism. Thank you for taking the time to read his story.
