Kourt's Cancer Journey

It's been awhile since we have updated Kourtney's story:

In October 2022, Kourtney was diagnosed with stage 3 Diffuse Large B Cell Non Hodgkin's lymphoma. She began chemo therapy in November 2022 and completed in March 2023. In April, imaging appeared to show that she was in remission.

Not long after her treatment completion and imaging, however, she began having pain again. Further testing completed in the spring showed her original tumor had not gone away, and she had three additional tumors. Radiation therapy is not an option due to the speed with which the cancer is metastasizing, so she completed another round of chemo in an effort to slow the growth.

This summer, Kourtney had T-cells harvested so they could be multiplied in a lab, then reinjected into her blood to try to help target and shrink the tumors. She also had another round of chemo therapy between harvest and injection of the grown T-cells.

Recent imaging shows that the three new tumors found in the spring are now gone. Unfortunately, the original tumor is still present. Kourtney is working with her medical team to develop a continued plan of care. She will need at least two surgeries in the next 3-6 months, along with multiple types of physical therapy, mental health therapy, acupuncture, massage therapy, regular visits with her care team, etc.

It has been over a year since Kourtney has been able to work. She has exhausted all of her short-term disability benefits through her job, and the Peterson's do not qualify for many federal and state assistance programs.
