Derreck Alexander medical bills after brain injury
Donation protected
My name is Miranda Alexander,
On December 19th, 2018, my dad suffered from a sudden subarachnoid hemorrhage, a rare type of brain hemorrhage, while taking a shower. After a night in the ER, he was transferred to ICU in SF where he underwent 5 surgeries to stop the bleeding and also to insert a drain into his head.
On January 11th, 2019, he was thankfully transferred to a skilled nursing facility closed to home. Since arriving, he has been doing daily physical and cognitive therapy. Recovery is going to be very slow but we are taking it day by day, some days better than others.
After multiple recommendations, we decided to start this fund for my father’s growing list of medical bills. Especially since he had to be transferred to a hospital in SF out of our insurance coverage. Due to him being unable to work, my family will no longer have health insurance by the end of April. After that point we will be paying for my father’s insurance. So far we are looking at monthly medical costs out of pocket, but we’re anticipating even more as my dad may not be approved to stay where he is much longer due to his
improved physical strength.
Although his strength is returning, his memory is still extremely affected as well as his sense of surrounding and reality. After he comes home he will need constant assistance to adjust and continued in-home cognitive therapy. Anything donated will be GREATLY appreciated by me and my parents. Thank you, sending love.
