Spin Short Film

Donation protected

A seemingly happy woman is thrown for a loop after an unexpected run-in leads her to a startling realization.

That's the logline for our short film SPIN, a 7 page drama that will shoot in Atlanta the weekend of July 31st and Aug. 1st. It's an intimate piece that explores sexual assault within the context of a relationship and the difficulty many survivors have of coming to terms with a violation perpetrated by a partner. (*See the video above for our lookbook.) It's also a proof of concept for a full-length feature film that expands the story into a psychological thriller, one that we can't wait to make!

Who's We?

How Did We Get Here?

After writing the script for the feature film once productions were grounded due to COVID, I initially scrapped the idea of shooting the short altogether because after producing two previous shorts I knew this one would cost somewhere between $15k-$20k between cast, crew, locations, equipment, production design and post. However, friend & former collaborator Anthony Davis quickly stepped in with seed money because he believed in the story and in the vision we have to share it with the world. And speaking of that vision...

Where Are We Going?

Once our film is completed, our social impact strategy will be as follows:

  • Partner with organizations that serve sexual assault survivors to host private screenings followed by intimate conversations that are survivor-centered.
  • License the film to political advocacy organizations who are working to change legislation around the statute of limitations, especially as it pertains to rape and sodomy.
  • Screen at colleges and universities followed by a talkback on coercion vs consent.
  • And of course, screen at various film festivals to help build the audience for the feature to come.

How Can You Help?

This is my passion project so while it's primarily self-funded whatever we can raise here will be a huge help in offsetting my out of pocket costs. As mentioned above, we're in the ballpark of $15k-$20k with more than half of that amount going towards paying day rates for cast & crew. *Not their full rates mind you, but enough for them to lend their time, talents and energy to this project, for which I'm grateful. Telling this smaller story (and telling it well) is our way of showing the money folks that they should invest in helping us tell the full thing. So if you've read the feature script and are excited to see that get made (or if you haven't but it sounds like a film you'd support), please join us in setting off on this movie-making journey by contributing to this short.

Thanks for reading (hopefully sharing) and for whatever form of support you're able to give!

*Thoughts, prayers and good vibes are also very much appreciated. :-)
