Kreios' Cancer Treatment

On January 10th, we received some devastating news: our beloved, goofy, silly Boxer Kreios was diagnosed with Large Cell Lymphoma. This was the last thing we wanted to hear, especially for Jason on his birthday. Jason has raised Kreios since he picked him out of a litter five years ago, and Kreios is so bonded to Jason that he stares out of the window waiting for his "Dad" to come home after he leaves for a shift at work.

Kreios developed large lumps under his neck about 3 weeks ago, and we immediately brought him to the vet, concerned but hoping it wasn't cancer. We waited a week for results to come in after they aspirated the lumps, but there was no diagnosis. They then recommended a biopsy, which we immediately scheduled. During this time Kreios' health declined, and we watched helplessly as our big goofball of a dog languished. His appetite was gone (which is so unlike him, if anyone knows him he's constantly begging for scraps off of your plate or waiting patiently to lick the remnants of Jason's oatmeal in the morning). He was vomiting every other day, and didn't want to move off of the couch or from his spot on the dog bed. Normally the life of the party, his vitality diminished, and when "Dad" left for work, he didn't even have the energy to wait at the window and watch for him to come home.

The news of Kreios' cancer has devastated us, and our hearts are breaking for him because we know that this illness has put a damper on what we had hoped would be a long, fulfilled life. The veterinarian has recommended chemotherapy treatment, which could lengthen Kreios' life by 1-2 years. Without it, he'll be lucky to make it 6 months. We know that treatment isn't always the answer, and that chemotherapy may not work, but we feel that we need to do everything we can to give our boy a longer shot at life.
