What this loving, kind, and witty husband and father of four girls, suspected was progressive back pain from an old injury, turned out to be a very rare and aggressive form of bone cancer, called Chondrosarcoma. In early September, tests confirmed that Kris had a grapefruit-size tumor in his left pelvis. Odds of surviving without immediate and intense treatment are very low. The only effective treatment option for Kris is full left leg and pelvis amputation. With less than 3 weeks from diagnosis, the surgery was performed.
Without a doubt, this diagnosis and treatment are emotionally devastating and life-altering. There is great uncertainty about his future as more testing is required to assess the success of the surgery and implement the long physical rehabilitation that is required. Kris, his wife Andrea, and their daughters are facing this challenge with their customary faith, optimism, and, in true Kris fashion - humor. He is already joking about his new 45lb-weight-loss-in-a-day.
With time, effort and faith, Kris and Andrea have hope that life will return to some kind of normalcy, allowing him to return to work, engage in favorite activities and continue to serve others in his Church and community. Until then, however, his sudden illness and incapacity mean that financial pressures are mounting. Growing medical bills, combined with other financial commitments (two of Kris and Andrea's daughters are in college and two are in high school) means that current income and future income are likely to be insufficient to cover everything. Kris loves his family deeply and is grateful his surgery has allowed him to spend more time with them.
As friends, family and fans of Kris and Andrea, we ask that you be as generous as you can be to help this family recover from this challenging experience and lift their burdens by donating.
