Kris Yip Memorial Fund
Donation protected
In lieu of a 50th birthday party, I would appreciate donations to Kris's memorial fund. In time, this fund will be used to support a junior rider development program in Prince George. As our family spent many years with the P.G. Cycling Club, we feel this is the best way to honour Kris as he was always proud to represent our home town.
After an epic inaugural Kris Yip Memorial Fondo on June 24th this year, we're already planning next year's event! Kris was a true ambassador of the sport, not only focusing on competing, but on inclusion and having fun. Group rides with Kris meant no one got left behind and that everyone was made to feel they were doing awesome. Our hope with this annual event is to get more people out on bikes (bike it, you'll like it!) as well as raise money for the community Kris loved so much.
We are also researching ways to prevent another family from having to suffer a preventable loss of a loved one. Our goal is to press the medical system for better screening and care of families with known coronary artery disease (CAD). Kris did not know he had this disease. There were no signs, no symptoms, no second chance. Had doctors properly screened him after our biological father had his first heart attack due to CAD ten years ago, he could still be here. As 40 to 60% of this disease is heredity, Kris's cardiac health should have been investigated by the medical system. Instead, he was told he was "low risk" as he was an "athlete, fit and healthy". This is not acceptable and has to change. Kris should still be here.
Have you experienced CAD or sudden death due to CAD in your family? I'd like to hear your story.
