Kristal’s Life Altering Surgery and Recovery

Kristal a much loved mother of three young children and devoted step-mother of two. Adored wife, daughter, daughter in-law, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend has devistantingly been advised she requires an urgent below knee leg amputation.

In February of this year, Kristal felt what may have been a spider bite on the sole of her foot. What proceeded was a small ulcer which escalated into a nasty infection. Unfortunately the infection in her foot has now run rampant.

Since February, Kristal has endured 10 debridment surgeries cutting back more and more of her foot. In this time she has been admitted to intensive care, suffered stage 5 kidney failure and has been seriously, seriously ill. The infections which have developed over the last 12 weeks have spread into her tendons, ligaments and bone leaving no other option than to amputate her leg to prevent an even more catastrophic outcome.

Despite only being 29 years of age, Kristal has lived her lifetime as a type 1 diabetic being diagnosed at the age of two years old. Diabetes on its own is a serious, chronic medical condition. Not only has she been battiling a life threatening infection and kidney failure, her diabetes has also required concurrent management and will also need constant management ongoing.

Kristal is no stranger to adversity, at 7 years of age she was diagnosed with perthes diasese of the hip. She was hospitalised, bedridden and put into traction for 4 months. Her legs were then placed into broom stick casts for 2 years. At 23 years of age Kristal required a total hip replacement to address her hip pain and lack of functionality.

Despite these significant health challenges Kristal never, ever complains. She faces these challenges with courage and composure. She is always thinking of others. She never likes to draw attention to herself, make a fuss or ask for help.

Now in her time of need, with such a life altering surgery ahead and ongoing rehabilitation, we would like to be able to provide Kristal and her husband Callum with some support which we know they never would have asked for.

Any assistance provided would enable Kristal and her family to meet their cost of living whilst being able to provide the necessities for their family.
