Krista's Tiny Home - final push for October24 move in!

My name is Todd Smith and I met Krista through a help line with our church where she asked for any assistance to convert an old trailer she had to a Tiny Home for her and her family of 4 kids.

The funds raised are for the purchase of construction materials and to pay direct costs (ie dump fees) for the construction of this tiny home for five. The funds are being managed by myself along with direct contributions from Krista to purchase new and used materials for this build. The expected cost will be approximately $12,000 to $15,000 (direct cost of materials - labour is by volunteers including myself. Volunteers are not receiving compensation other than for direct costs of materials). Approximately $4000 will be raised by Go Fund Me, ~ $2000 has been raised by church and family and Krista has contributed over $6000 of her own funds.

Oct Update

Electrical installed including electric bike charging station and outdoor outlets for future freezer / dryer connection. Lofts completed, kitchen countertop and bathroom plumbing all roughed in. Wall panels and insulation started. Move in date moved to Dec 1. Much help from volunteers Gary and John during the weeks on this push to complete. Thank-you.

Sept Update

Exterior completed. Now it’s on to electrical, plumbing and building kitchen and finishing to get heat, water and drains in before the cold weather and move in ready. 

August Update:

Almost there with roof on, exterior almost complete but the costly work to finish the inside. We are looking for $2000 more for a total of $4000 raised plus the almost $5000 that Krista has put in to get this family of 5 in a dry, warm and comfortable home.

Progress is underway as we have been donated movie set walls and some other materials. Minor setback with all the rain as we had to remove all the floors to dry things out. Challenges with building outdoors but we are on a site she can live on. Now we need to finish by end of summer for move in. 

Hi, my name is Todd Smith and our family is fundraising to help build and locate a tiny home for Krista and her family in the lower mainland of British Columbia, Canada.

Krista has lived a life of homelessness and is doing everything a single mom can do to give her family a safe, warm and dependable home. Krista and her children are actively involved in the project and learning about constructing a tiny home.

Finding and keeping an affordable and safe rental for 5 is getting nearly impossible as renoviction and displacement push people closer to homelessness.

Krista's determination exceeds her limited resources as she perseveres through challenges most of us would never see.

With this fundraiser, we plan to build a 36' x 8' tiny home with loft and locate it on a property with access to water, power and sewer within biking distance to schools and basic services. Krista has purchased all the materials herself so far including trailer, lumber, plywood, donated windows etc. In order to complete the tiny home during the spring of 2024 we hope to raise $10,000 to finish the floors, walls and roof to provide a closed in, dry space for her to finish her home. Funds used for purchasing materials and skilled trades where necessary, towing and any initial site costs. The build is being done by volunteers and Krista.
