To all our friends and family,
As many of you know our sweetie pie Kristen Gessner, 30 years old, has been fighting Huntington’s disease likea warrior for several years. This terrible disease is taking this beautiful soul from us. Kristen was recently in the ICU not expected to leave the hospital but was miraculously given this extra time. Her amazing parents have worked so hard and have given so much to take care of her and her daughter Madison. Lisa, Kristen‘s mother, started and is running 2 Local Girls to help Support and find a cure for Huntington’s. Our highest power is calling Kristen home. The family has been given the news that no parent ever wants to hear, Kristen is now suffering from silent aspirations with a week to two months left to live. We would love to help relieve the huge burden of the cost of final arrangements from this already suffering family. Giving them their final time together to share a few more special moments. Your donations will help give Kristen the farewell she has chosen (Lisa has met with the funeral home and they prefer costs to be paid in full upfront ) and help with some of the unexpected costs and missed work during this devasta

Juvenile Onset Huntington’s Disease (JHD) is a form of Huntington’s disease (HD) that affects children and teenagers. Huntington’s disease is a hereditary neurodegenerative disorder that is characterized by progressively worsening motor, cognitive, behavioral, and psychiatric symptoms. JHD is caused by a mutation of the huntingtin gene called a “CAG repeat expansion”. The mutation results in gradual neuronal degeneration in the basal ganglia of the brain, which is responsible for coordination of movements, thoughts, and emotions. As JHD progresses, other regions of the brain undergo neuronal degeneration with diffuse and severe brain atrophy that is comparable to late stage Alzheimer’s disease. JHD usually has a more rapid progression rate than adult onset HD; the earlier the onset, the faster JHD progresses. Death often occurs within 10 years of JHD onset, as opposed to 10-25 years in adult onset HD. There is no cure or treatment to stop, slow or reverse the progression of JHD.
