"Life will be full of ups and downs, it will be one tough ride. But your love for your child will be the anchor that sees you through it all."
Let me introduce you to two of my best friends, who happen to also be my family....
Kristin and Derek aren’t your average couple. They grew up together. Knew they wanted to be together since they were kids in high school. They have dreamed of making their life together. Settling down, buying a house, and starting a family. Unfortunately for them, it hasn’t been that easy.
In 2013, 2 years after they were married, Kristin and Derek decided it was time to start a family. After 4 long years of trying to conceive, in December 2017 they finally saw the positive sign on a home pregnancy test. They were ecstatic and also in disbelief. However, their joy was short lived, as they soon found out that it was a tubal pregnancy, and they lost their first baby at 10 weeks. Disappointed, but determined to have the family they always wanted, they tried again. In August 2018 they saw another positive sign. This again was short lived as Kristin lost their second baby shortly after. At this point they decided it was time to begin to work with a fertility specialist. They began to run tests, change her medications, and gave them all of their options, including IVF. In the meantime, Kristin became pregnant for the third time. But as with her 2 previous pregnancies, this too ended up in a miscarriage. She called her regular OB, and she confirmed their fears. Her doctor told her that body would take care of things naturally. Kristin took her advice and carried on.
Weeks later she returned to the fertility specialist to begin the preliminary testing, and check the viability of her tubes. This procedure required Kristin to take a pregnancy test. To her surprise it came back positive. She tried to figure out how this was possible, knowing that something wasn't right. Immediately, they began running bloodwork and the results showed her HCG level was very high, far too high for an early pregnancy. Later that day, more tests proved what they were all thinking. She never miscarried 6 weeks earlier, this was another ectopic pregnancy. They scheduled a DNC for the following week and she returned home. On this same day, her 92 year old grandmother was admitted to the hospital.
That evening, soon after arriving to work, sharp pains began shooting through her abdomen and back. The pain became unbearable and her husband drove her to the nearest hospital. At 10:30 pm that night Kristin was told that her right fallopian tube had ruptured and I was bleeding internally. They rushed her to a larger hospital that was more equipped to do the surgery. She called her parents, who are two counties away with her grandmother who was also in the hospital. Her parents rushed to her side and they began surgery began at 2 am. They removed the ruptured tube, and said everything went great, and to not worry because "God gave her two tubes". She went home a few hours later, groggy and still trying to comprehend how all this happened. The following day, 1 day post-op, her grandmother passed away. She was not able to spend time with her in her final hours due to her recovery.
A few months later they returned to the fertility specialist to continue the journey to become parents. During the continued tests Kristin and Derek found out that her remaining tube is not viable and they cannot concieve naturally.
That is what bring us here. They are determined to have a family and are ready to try in vitro fertilization (IVF). They want to have a family of their own, a biological child, but the cost of the procedure, tests, and medications are substantial.
I created this page not only to share their story but to prayerfully request your help in making their dreams come true.
My heart aches with them, and I cannot understand the emotional turmoil wrought by miscarriages and surgeries. I see their pain and want to carry it with them.
I cannot wait to see them as parents. I know they will be amazing, and you would too if you could see them with my baby girl. They are loving, patient, kind, and understanding, but also stern and corrective when necessary. We all know it is easy to be the former and much more difficult the latter. They work together as a team and are committed to each other. They will raise their child with grounding morals, love, and respect. Kristin and Derek are such compassionate people and will do anything for those they love, and I hope this is something that can be done for them.
Taking this step requires an act of courage and strength. One that I have never had to fathom having. They constantly impress me. I am so honored to be their friend, their family, to be a witness their journey, and their love. I pray that it ends with the fulfillment of everything they have longed for.
Please help make their dreams of a family become a reality.
