Kristin Kicks Cancer

Donation protected

This past June my best friend Kristin West, who I’ve known for over thirty years, was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer, which is HER-2+ (infiltrating duct carcinoma of the breast) and axillary lymph node cancer (metastatic malignant neoplasm in the lymph nodes).
Kristin has spent her life in the service of others. She is that kind of person who never has a bad word to say about anybody. She hears that you are in need and she is there with her whole family and a giant truck of support. When you are sad, she brings you a Charlie Brown Christmas tree when you just can’t muster the strength to put one up that year. She travels two hours to play Skip-Bo with you on your hospital bed just to help you get through one more day.
Kristin spends her days working at a local Wells Fargo branch, which she has worked at for 17 years, and spends many of her evenings as a caretaker for her mother. She has been married to her husband James for over 18 years and they have three beautiful children and four kitties.
Even before cancer, the pandemic had hit her family’s finances in a hard way as James has had inconsistent work delivering furniture for La-Z-boy and now chemo has drained her hours significantly.
Kristin started chemotherapy in August at M.D. Anderson in Houston, TX. She has to travel two hours for every doctor’s appointment, test, and chemo treatment from her home in Lumberton, TX.  She is having to live out of hotels a lot of the time because many appointments are scheduled very early in the morning with follow-up appointments the next day.  The chemo has taken her hair and is continuing to drain her physically and financially.  Kristin will need chemo for the next year. She is scheduled to have a mastectomy on her left breast this December and will have total reconstructive surgery next summer. She will start radiation in January, which will cause a temporary move to the Woodlands for six weeks. The medical bills are piling up.
I am seeking to meet her insurance’s annual out-of-pocket maximum, which is $6000 this January, and will be thankful for every cent we get over this amount to help cover the medical bills she has already received since June. We had a garage sale to help with some of those bills, but are still in need. Kristin is such a fighter. She is doing everything she can to try and earn this money herself (she is so stubborn), but the chemo is draining her. She needs financial help and prayer. So far her treatments are showing some successes. We give this to God and pray that your support will help her continue to keep kicking cancer!
