Performance at Carnegie Hall

My name is Kristina Restrepo. I am a high school sophomore in Wylie, and I play the alto saxophone. I am a member of That Wylie Band Wind Symphony, which is our varsity-level band. I am also a spirit captain in the leadership team for That Wylie Band marching band.

I am an honors student, finishing the year with a 4.0 GPA, with awards for excellence in humanities and performing arts, and was nominated to be a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.

A little bit about me: I was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and I live with my hard-working parents and brother. Some of my hobbies include reading my Bible, going to the gym, spending time with friends, playing ukulele, listening to music, going on walks, taking pictures of the sky, and playing volleyball!

My parents sacrifice so much for me and all my activities, and I am so thankful for all the opportunities available to me thanks to my parents’ decision to immigrate to the United States. Day to day, I try to do my part and make the most of my parents’ efforts. I work as hard as I can to be the best student, athlete, musician, and actor I can be, as well as be active in my church and volunteer whenever I can.

This year, That Wylie Band Wind Symphony has been granted the amazing opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York this coming spring! While I am thrilled to be a part of this, it is quite an expense for me and my family to cover, especially since we are working toward purchasing a professional alto saxophone ($5,300) this year to meet the standard of excellence the wind symphony requires.

I pray some kind-hearted people will read my story, be willing to help my family send me to Carnegie Hall this spring, and know they are investing in a student that will do the most with their kindness. Thank you for reading this! I have attached some pictures of my activities.
