Kristina Steven's Medical Bills

Dear Friends,
As many of you know, I was hospitalized for eight days starting on February 13, 2017 due to multiple pulmonary embolisms (blood clots) in both lungs. While I am a very independent person and find it difficult to ask for help, my health insurance only covers 80% of my medical fees, and I am responsible for the rest, which amounts to a whopping $16,500.
I am proud that I am a single mom raising two children, three cats and a foster dog, while working at my life’s passion as a medical coordinator for homeless pets, but there are months that I barely scrape by on my current income. I simply do not have the money to pay for these unexpected medical bills that continue to mount and am asking for your help to do so. If you don’t know the story behind my gofundme page, let me fill you in.
On February 12th, I was walking my foster dog Coconut and realized as I returned home I was severely out of breath. I fainted but was eventually able to get into bed. The next day I was so weak I could not walk and was transported by ambulance to the Loudoun Hospital Center. After hours of scans, bloodwork and multiple doctors, I was diagnosed with one massive blood clot in my left lung and several smaller blood clots in my right lung. Once diagnosed, the doctors started me on an IV blood thinner and a clot busting treatment called TPA. The blood thinner and TPA caused internal bleeding which lasted off and on for seven days until I was eventually released by the hospital.
Slowly but surely I am gaining my strength back and feeling better. My doctor told me I should be able to go back to work in mid-March. Although the eight-day hospital stay put me in debt for a large sum of money, I am thankful to be alive and am indebted to the doctors at Lansdowne who saved my life. It was a scary time for my kids and I want to thank them for their never ending support. Jenny had come racing from college to be with me in the ICU in the middle of the first night. I am also grateful for the love and support my friends and family have shown and want to thank my employer, Friends of Homeless Animals, for granting me additional leave until I can return to work in mid-March. I also want to express great appreciation to the many FOHA volunteers who signed up to bring a meal after I was released from the hospital. I was humbled by your support.
Please consider supporting me by donating to my gofundme page. Any amount will help alleviate the financial pressure of my mounting medical bills.
Help spread the word by sharing my gofundme page on Facebook and other social media. Thank you for your support!
