Kristine Simon Fitzgerald Memorial
Donation protected
Krissy Simon Fitzgerald lost her battle to small bowel cancer on October 31, 2020, at age 41, after a debilitating ordeal with Crohn’s disease for most of her adult life. Everyone who knew Krissy in any capacity--from her students at Our Lady of Peace in Lynbrook, NY to her friends and neighbors in Mechanicsville, Virginia—recognized her as a genuine, compassionate and caring young woman whose love of family was the great joy of her life. Her husband, Brian, her children Aidan (turning 9 November 9) and Maddie (2), her brother Thomas and his family, and her parents, Thomas and Susan, are all struggling with the aftermath of her passing. As anyone can imagine, the loss of a loved one is a traumatic blow, and the effort to recenter after such an event requires patience, fortitude, and faith. Those of us who knew Krissy--or “Mrs. Fitz,” as her students affectionately called her—now have an opportunity to help Brian, Aidan and Maddie as they try to move on from this tragic misfortune. Our contributions to the welfare of Krissy’s family will be greatly appreciated by everyone in her immediate circle.
To that end, we are organizing a Go Fund Me project in honor of Krissy, to help with educational and other expenses for her children. Too often the good intentions of family and friends find expression in flowers and other commemorative items, and while we appreciate those intentions, we are hopeful that the empathy and concern people have displayed over the last few weeks can now be expressed in a contribution that will enable her immediate family to navigate the challenges they face going forward. We are asking for your assistance in this regard, secure in the conviction that Krissy was deeply loved by all and that the people fortunate enough to be touched by Krissy’s unique charm and genuine spirit will enable her family to emerge from their loss with renewed energy, empowered by the realization that Krissy was appreciated by all who knew her.
