Please help us get Alanna and Micah’s mommy well!! After Kristin gave birth to Micah in December 2017, she began having some health issues. She naturally assumed she was experiencing post-pregnancy symptoms and discussed with her OB, but neither she nor her doctor were alarmed at the time. She and her husband, John, decided Kristin would stay home with Alanna (3) and Micah (6 mo.) to be a full-time mommy. During this transition, Kristin shopped around for the most affordable and comprehensive insurance option for a family of 4 and purchased a Christian healthshare-type plan that came highly recommended from other mommies.
The health issues, unfortunately, continued to progress. For the past month or so she has struggled with energy most days and often has to nap when the children do. Kristin finally decided it would be best to seek out a specialist. They discovered she has a mass that has been deemed cancerous. Kristin met today with the oncologist, she goes back for further testing next week, and we will know more about the staging and extent of the cancer on July 9th. Her treatment plan we are told includes radiation, chemo, and surgery. Overall, this is about a 6 month plan. She was pretty happy to learn today that the chemo of choice won’t make her lose her hair. We are celebrating each little victory! Please pray that God continues to (1) heal Kristin, (2) give wisdom to her medical team, and (3) give us peace.
As you may know, healthshare-type plans are not governed by the Affordable Care Act and are thus not prohibited from including a pre-existing clause in their plans. As she had no way of knowing she had a pre-existing condition, she sincerely thought she was making the next best move for her family for insurance coverage. However, since the symptoms began prior to the date coverage began, this condition is being deemed pre-existing, and none of her visits or treatment is eligible for coverage under this plan. She has found an insurance option for herself that will afford some peace of mind in that area, but at a substantial cost. In order to have the necessary treatments, they are going to need funding to carry them through December for premiums and out-of-pocket maximum costs. They will also need funds for childcare as she fights this battle. The amount needed to take the financial burden off the family through the end of the year is $15,000.
All of the money raised will go directly to her course of care, including her insurance premiums, medical bills, medicines, treatments and surgery. Any additional funds raised will be kept in the care fund for upcoming medical costs. When Kristin becomes cancer-free (in Jesus name!) and all bills are paid, any extra funds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
An account has been established at First American Bank & Trust in Athens, in her name, “Special Care Fund for Kristin Napier”, if you wish to make donations or give here, via Go Fund Me.
Aside from monetary gifts, we are so very thankful for your prayers, thoughts, and support as Kristin fights to WIN this battle!
With sincere appreciation,
