Kristy Erickson Carpenter is 32 years old and was recently diagnosed with Neuroendocrine carcinoma--a rare type of cancer. Kristy and her husband, Brant, are the parents of a three year old boy and a newborn baby boy who was born May 30, 2016. Because of his being 7 weeks early, little James will remain in NICU for at least four more weeks.
It was during the Caesarean section birth that the doctors discovered a large tumor which was cancerous. The plan was to let Kristy heal from the birth before going back into surgery to make sure all the cancer was removed. Three days later Kristy was having trouble breathing and because they thought it might be a blood clot, they rushed to the ER. The scans revealed tumors in her lungs, back and sternum. Through other scans they found the cancer has also spread to her liver. Kristy will undergo an aggressive chemotherapy treatment. However, Kristy was told she has a limited time of ten to twelve months.
Kristy's entire family found out the news while at a family reunion to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Kristy's parents. Because of the pregnancy and the increasing chances of her baby being born premature, Kristy and her family were unable to attend. The reunion transformed into a gathering of family with a renewed focus on the importance of strengthening relationships and the purpose of prayer, fasting and faith.
Kristy's family is helping to raise money to cover medical expenses and to provide much needed support. Kristy and Brant will be forced to pay some out-of-pocket expenses for many of the upcoming tests and procedures due to limited insurance coverage. We have no financial goal in mind, but we know that every donation will be of great help. More than anything, however, please send a prayer in their behalf that they will be able to make special memories with each other and their two little boys which will last a lifetime for Brant and Kristy's family until they meet again.
