Kenai River Spring Clean Up
Donation protected
In 2014 Mark & Cindy Glassmaker decided that something needed to be done about the debris in and around the Kenai River in Alaska. The Kenai River is a national treasure and is the cornerstone of the Peninsula. It is also a very important part of Alaska's tourism. So, Keith Baxter, the Kenai River Professional Guides Association and Kenai River Sportfishing Association joined Mark & Cindy to help bring their vision to life, which is known as the Annual Kenai River Spring Clean Up.
The Kenai River Spring Cleanup (KRSC) brings together a large group of local students, parents and partners to clean up the Kenai River and its parks. The KRSC program also serves to foster conservation and environmental responsibility in our youth so that they may be effective and caring stewards in the future.
This year 650 children participated and we collected over 3,000 pounds in a two day period. Over the last four years we have pulled 12,533 pounds of fishing line, coffee cups, plastic bottles and other debris from in and around this river.
Next year we plan to expand the clean up to include another river and incorporate additional schools to help.
Our Projected Expenses
$2,450 150 Rods & Reels
$2,000 Buses & Drivers for two days
$ 400 1000 wrist bands
$ 300 2000 sterile gloves
$ 350 Popcicles
$5,500
This is where you come in. Your donation, big or small, will help to cover costs of this growing event.
As a bonus each school is given a batch of rods and every child that participates in the clean up, is entered for a chance to win a brand new fishing rod & reel. Each class that participates will also receive popcicles for their end-of-year party.
From everyone here...THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT! We are truly grateful for your assistance.
