Our Adoption Adventure

"Not flesh of my flesh,
Nor bone of my bone,
But still miraculously my own.
Never forget for a single minute,
You didn't grow under my heart
but in it."

In our 8 years of marriage God has taken us on many adventures and down so many unexpected paths.

But with every adventure, through every up and through every down, children were never far from our minds. God kept the dream of parenthood near our hearts, even when we couldn’t imagine it remotely possible.

For a few years we believed that dream would manifest itself in the form of biological children. But again, God had other plans for us.

For Donna, the call to adoption began almost 14 years ago. She read an article about the little girls in China who were being abandoned in the streets and the country’s need for adoption. Right then she knew that her heart was in China. She felt that God had a precious child planned for her that would be born there. Although, at the time, our marriage was still 5 years away, Donna knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that no matter who she married, she and her husband would be parents to an abandoned child from China.

For Jason, the call came later, a few years into our marriage. He wasn’t opposed to the idea of adoption, it was simply one he had never considered. In his mind, any children he would have with his wife would be biological. But over the first few years of our marriage, however, God slowly worked on his heart, opening it to father the fatherless.

So here we are. At no point was there any question of where we were going to adopt from. It was always China. As we began to research, we learned that most of the children eligible to be adopted have some form of disability or medical problems. We spent weekends reading up on many of these conditions. But even then, there was no doubt, no hesitation. We didn’t change our minds. There may be cheaper options, easier options, but we know that this is where God has placed our children. How could we adopt from anywhere else?

When God places the calling on your heart, and you choose to follow His path, you just move forward. It can be tough, but we are fully trusting that whatever children God has picked out to join our family, He will equip us to be the parents they need.

We are embarking on a journey that we are very excited about. However, we know it is a really tough one. There is a very strong possibility that the child or children we will get will need surgery. Either right away or very soon after coming home. We understand that it may not be easy, between the medical bills and the adjustment period for both us and our children, but we know that God will help us through it all.

We have applied to have one or two children, anywhere from birth to 8 years old. But we are also open to bringing home an older child (10-12) as well. They will all have a medical problem or disability.

The money we are raising will cover the adoption process, which includes the travel costs of going to China. If you can donate, we are very grateful.

We are asking for your prayers as we know we have chosen to follow a tough and beautiful path.

“This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring.”
