Krystal, Adam and Baby Gunnar

Hi my name is Jan and I’m fundraising on behalf of Krystal Tootell and Adam Burken and their precious baby, Gunnar Craig William Burken.

Gunnar was born on July 4th 2023 at 34 weeks gestation and was transferred to Iowa City Hospital NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care). Further testing confirmed that our precious baby needs brain surgery.

Krystal and Adam have suddenly been thrust into the position of having to juggle their lives in between their home and family in Dubuque and their baby in Iowa City - a two hour commute each way. The extra cost of accommodation, gas, and food while staying in Iowa City is a huge added stress for this young couple while they try to focus on Gunnar and his upcoming surgery and recovery. It is estimated that he will remain in the hospital for at least another five weeks.

I appreciate any help to ease the financial burden of this heart wrenching situation. No family ever wants to find themselves in this situation but many do. That’s why it takes a village to raise a child.

Update: Surgery is tentatively scheduled for this coming week.
