Meet Tom…. Tom is approximately 2 years old and a rescue cat. I’m Rachael his human and otherwise known as a bit of a crazy cat lady and I won’t deny it! Tom and I struck up a little friendship in London, a chance meeting helping a friend scenario when my daughter and I popped into a cat cafe, and over coffee that I never did drink this little chap and I bonded. On the train home I couldn’t stop thinking about him so I applied to give Tom a home!
Tom has never had a home, he has spent the first 2 years of his life on the streets, he was very under weight and malnourished and we had to wait about 10 weeks before he had gained enough weight to come home with his sibling Otis in tow! (I know crazy cat lady remember!). They were both still poorly initially and we kept them separate for the first 5 weeks before introducing them to their new cat family and life settled. Tom is the most lovable cat, you can tell he’s so grateful for love, cuddles, warm places to sleep and knowing there will always be food in his bowl!
However our bubble has burst, just 13 weeks in Tom became poorly and after paying for an ultrasound and tests Tom has be diagnosed with FIP. FIP is rare the veterinary surgery only see about two cases a year. FIP is a mutation of Feline Coronavirus which Tom had contracted before he came to live with us. Two years ago this was a death sentence in fact if he wasn’t with us Tom wouldn’t be here now and when we were at the vets initially euthanasia was one of the first things that was discussed due to the financial cost… you see there is a cure now for FIP it’s not widely used due to the rarity in cases in the Uk but it has an 80-95% success rate, so there is a chance to save him it’s as simple as that but it costs £5000.
So this is why I’m creating this fundraiser, for Tom, to give him the chance of a life, to experience a home and the love he deserves, because quite frankly otherwise it sucks, two years of struggling on the streets before finding your forever home for a few weeks to then well let’s not go there, it breaks my heart, my family have been emotional wrecks we all love him so much.
He is so happy to be here and I won’t give up on him, he’s fighting too, can you help me and my family give Tom the medication he needs to get better? anything you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading Tom’s Story Xx
