Memorial Garden
After bravely fighting for years, our community lost a 7th grader Collin Perrone to in his fight to cancer in July of 2019. Collin used his positivity and determination to keep him strong and to remind us all that anything was possible. Collin continues to be in the hearts and memories of the entire Greenwich Community.
In March of 2020, we unexpectedly suffered the loss of another student, 8th grader Jeniffer Costa E Silva due to a car accident. Jen’s positivity, curiosity and passion for life was genuinely contagious. Jen always greeted her teachers and classmates with a bright “good morning” each day, making each person she spoke to feel important. The way Jen made people feel can never be forgotten.
The loss of two classmates so close together has had a long-lasting effect on our school and greater community.
A group of parents, educators and school district leaders has therefore come together with the shared hope to create, on school grounds, a special place of reflection to honor not only Colin and Jeniffer, but all of our school district families who have lost someone special too soon.
The Memorial Garden at the Stewartsville Middle School will sit on the front law of the school, between two trees that were dedicated to faculty members that have previously passed but will always be connected in spirit to our school district. Two benches will sit upon a stone base, and a variety of annual plants will be included as well. The plants include Miss Kim Lilac, Golden Spireas, and Rose Creek Abelias.
We are using Baylor’s Landscapes of Stewartsville, NJ to complete this project. The money raised through this fundraiser will cover the estimated cost of the memorial garden and any future upkeep it may require. If there is funding left over, the money will be donated to the school’s scholarship fund in honor of Collin and Jen.
The devastating losses of both Collin and Jeniffer have deeply affected our school community. We hope the memorial garden will act as a place of healing for our community. Thank you for your generosity and for helping our community establish a tribute to all our school district members who were taken too early and provide a dedicated space to remember them.
