A living Library: Obbo Boonsamoo
Don protégé
Please support Obbo Boonsamoo Miéessoo: An Oromo nationalist who is a survivor of an unjustified long-term imprisonment and torture during the military led regime´s injust treatment on thousands of the then emerging Oromo intelligentsia in Ethiopia.
Obbo Boonsamoo is a devoted teacher, writer and activist of the Oromo culture and language. In addition to being profoundly gifted, he was also warm, sincere and genuinely good-natured. He was the author of “Madaala Sammuu” and ultimately became one of the greatest Oromo poets of our time. He has worked in various places in Oromia including the tourism office, West Arsi Zone, and Shashamanne to name a few.
He is “a living library” for his generous contribution to the efforts being made by national and international scholars who are interested in studying the Oromo culture, language and traditional musical arts primarily focusing on the south-western Oromo cultural heritages –the Arsii folklore and history.
Unfortunately, at this moment, he is suffering from a heart disease and has not been responding to treatments given to him in Ethiopia. Obbo Boonsamo has been referred aboard for further diagnosis and treatment. He has been admitted to the Bankok Hospital and is waiting for further diagnosis and possible treatments. We are lobbying the Oromo people, his former students, friends and all fellow country men and women to help contribute money to cover his medical bills while staying at Bankok Hospital Medical Center.
Thank you and we will certainly keep you posted on progress of Oboo Bonsamoo and your effort to support him. To learn more about Obbo Bonsamo Mieesoo’s contribution to Oromo language and culture please visit the link below.
