Kubaxw - Wrap our Children in Cedar

Gilakasla Namwayut,

My name is Sasha, some call me Kasalas which is my traditional given name.

I have been deeply inspired by the survivors of residential schools here in BC and Canada. My family has been impacted and attended the Port Alberni Residential School, I am a first generation survivor.

Over the last few years I have been raising awareness, bringing community together, and finding strength in all my relations. I have been moved to continue this work and I am reminded in these moments, the purpose and reason I push to become the best version of myself. I am inspired by my community, I am passionate about change and through these efforts I wish to inspire and give strength to those in need.

Recently, I've competed in 2 marathons, multiple ultra marathons, and 2 triathlons. But more importantly I have ran and raced for a cause bigger than my own interests. We have come together to celebrate, to mourn and to remember our collective history. Not only as Indigenous people but as Canadians.

My hope for this next challenge, Ironman Cozumel, is to provide inspiration, love and support to my family and community. I want to prove and display the strength we have inherited, passed down by our ancestors. That anything is possible, with the warrior spirit we have been gifted with.

I'm raising money to benefit Surrounded By Cedar Child and Family Services Society. A non profit society with the mission to provide family services strongly rooted in indigenous cultural values and world view. While ensuring urban Indigenous children grow up connected to family, community and culture. So that they too can feel the strength and support of our community.
