Kuebunyane Water Project - Partner MAF Lesotho

This GoFundMe is for Lokisa’a Kuebunyane Water Project in collaboration with MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship).

Kuebunyane is an extremely isolated mountain village… with an airport! It is an 8 hour mountainous trek from the nearest road, which is another 8 hours from Maseru, the capital city. The best way to get to Kuebunyane is by air. MAF flies weekly to Kuebunyane to support the village with Medical assistance and other critical services. While MAF have been assisting the village it became clear that there was a lack of water in the village and they asked Lokisa to visit and see what we could do to improve the water situation in the village.

MAF flew the Lokisa team to Kuebunyane and we found that there was actually a decent water system installed, however it had fallen into disrepair and only a trickle of water was flowing. We found that the springs supplying the village had become blocked, pipes had been broken and tanks leaking, all leading to only a trickle of water available. We made a plan to repair the water system, a cost of around AUD $10,000 (USD $7,000). We also want to make improvements to the existing system including installing more pipework and taps (currently there is only 5 taps spread throughout the village) as well as building toilets throughout the village. The improvements will cost an additional AUD $10,000, the total cost of the project will be AUD $20,000 (USD $14,000). Lokisa will be responsible for completing the repairs and upgrades to the water system while MAF will provide transport via air to get our team and materials to the remote Kuebunyane Village.

Kuebunyane is home to around 1000 people, made up of 3 smaller villages and is the home of a health centre run by the government. It is a hub for nearby villages for medical services and MAF assistance.

Access to clean and safe drinking water is a basic human right and this project has the potential to have a huge impact on the people of Kuebunyane and surrounding areas.
