Girl Rising - Kumano Kodo Campaign

Dear Friend,

When I first discovered the film "Girl Rising" I felt deeply called to action. 

Girl Rising is a GLOBAL movement to inspire humanity to break cycles of poverty through educating girls. 

In July 2016, UNESCO reported there are 130.3 million girl's out of school worldwide. 

Girl Rising believe story telling can be a transformational catalyst for long term social change.

Girl Rising believe in changing attitudes and behaviours to spark community-led initiatives.

I’m proud to be associated with the global campaign “Girl Rising”.

As a registered counsellor working in the youth sector, I share a passion for supporting young people to reach their full potential.

I decided I wanted to do something BIG to help. To give voices to voiceless. To give power to the disempowered. Around the world. To be the change that we wanted to see in the world, I had to do something bigger than anything I had done before. 

My goal is to raise $10,000 for “Girl Rising”.

To support this fundraising, I'll be organising and participating in two major events.

The first major fundraising activity is the “Girl Rising - Cocktail Charity Event”, for 100 people, held at the iconic Story Bridge Hotel in their superb Martini lounge  on Friday 17th August 6pm – 8pm. This amazing evening costs $65 per ticket which includes cocktail food and drinks while enjoying breathtaking views of the iconic Story Bridge and a part screening of the film "Girl Rising". Corporate sponsorship is vital for the success of this fundraising event. Any level of sponsorship is greatly appreciated. In addition to this, there will be a silent and live auction conducted on the evening with heaps of great prizes!

The second major fundraising activity is a Challenge Walk of the Kumono Kodo Trail in Japan September 25th - 1st October – a UNESCO world heritage pilgrimage route. I'll hike 100km over 7 days and along the way, raise awareness for Girl Rising through social media. Follow me on Instagram @reneemariesimpson. You will have the chance to offer sponsored challenges along the trail to raise money for this important initiative. The preparation and training will be part of the challenge as it will involve six months of long walks to build the endurance and physical capabilities to complete the hike. The trip to Japan has already been fully funded by myself. All funds raised go directly to support "girl rising" to set up education programs in Guatemala working with local partners and communities.
