Kurt Budliger's Recovery

Hello Friends,

I'm fundraising for Kurt Budliger, who is recovering from a major medical event. Kurt suffered seizures while waiting to see his doctor on March 21 after a few days of debilitating headaches and fever. He was quickly rushed by helicopter from the local hospital to UVM Burlington. He was put on a ventilator and would remain unconscious for the next six days. It was determined that he was suffering from HSV Encephalitis, a viral infection of his brain. In addition, he contracted pneumonia from being on the ventilator and continued to have uncontrollable fevers. It wasn't clear that he would make it, but thankfully he started to turn the corner on March 26. Kurt has made remarkable progress since then and will make a full recovery. This is the best news for all of us who were closely following events and worrying about the implications of possible brain damage from the virus.

In the meantime, Kurt faces a long recovery period and is missing several important classes that he teaches. And even with good insurance, he has some major bills coming in. We've set a modest goal for this fundraiser with the knowledge that Kurt, like many in our community, doesn't have short-term disability insurance. Every little bit helps, and I think whatever you can give to show Kurt support during this difficult time is greatly appreciated. Speaking as his friend here, Kurt has been an incredible example of grace and kindness throughout this entire ordeal. Gratitude radiates in every interaction I've seen Kurt have with the nurses and doctors that cared for him in the hospital, his family and friends who visited, and for so many of you reaching out to him with well wishes.
