KUUMBA's CHILDREN CORNER presents ART-TISM

Kuumba’s Corner has become a special piece of IAAF where families can come and experience love and admiration for our children. From the children’s books to the much needed activities, we provide a safe space for families to engage, learn and socialize with their peers.

This year, we will be incorporating a program called ART-TISM to our space. 1 in 36 children are on the Autism Spectrum; predominantly in the African American household. We as a community need to support our special needs families by giving them place where they feel comfortable and included. ART-TISM is a 3-day sensory-friendly arts & crafts program for all the IAAF children to participate in.

From July 1st to July 3rd 12pm to 4pm, Kuumba’s Corner will have 3 tables for project- based learning. Families will choose from between three activities (2 projects and/or Sensory Stations). The various projects will give an educational opportunity to build and enhance skills such as gross/fine motor, color recognition, taking directions and communication. The Sensory Station is for a remedy to over stimulation and for self-soothing purposes.

Day 1: Sun Catchers and Wind Spinners

Day 3: Rock Art and Self Portraits

What We Need:

At this time, we need to one (1) 10x10 tent, three (3) tables and 18 chairs, art supplies and materials to facilitate this program. We also created an Amazon wishlist either to be donated directly or to be purchased with the GoFundMe donations.
