BRING A HERO HOME
Donation protected
This is a very unfortunate story of a man who was a HERO to many many people and a devastating recent accident took everything from him. Now he is left in a tremendously difficult situation and we need your help to bring Steve Layzell home to get the medical care he urgently needs.
Those of you who don't know Steve, he was a firefighter and saved many lives including children. He was that special person that would go great lengths and risk his life to help or save another. Steve was also known to always be there supporting and helping anyone in need. His heart was huge and his acts of kindness for others was empowering and special.
In 2013, Steve moved to the United States to be with his wife to start their life together.
Five days before Christmas, on Dec. 20th, 2017, Steve was visiting home on Vancouver Island and was on his way to visit his elderly parents and had hit black ice. His vehicle tumbled over 50 feet down the mountain. It was a miracle Steve survived but unfortunately he was left paralyzed.
Steve is now moving back to Nanaimo to be with his family, and friends with a much-needed support system in place for him but he needs help to cover the extremely costly bills to return back to Canada as well as for the 24/7 medical care he requires.
Steve doesn’t have an MSP (Medical Services Plan) number in B.C. so he’s not eligible for any medical benefits for at least three months after he comes home. He has to pay for his specialized care until then. We don’t know whether MSP will cover all the never-ending bills. His insurance in the U.S. did not pay for everything he needed, costing him a lot of money out-of-pocket.
He has no income and will need care for the rest of his life due to his devastating spinal cord injury. (He has a little movement in his arms but can’t move his hands or legs.) We’re hoping the community Steve loves and has done so much for, will help ease his financial burden.
Please share and donate. Any denomination is greatly appreciated.
On behalf of Steve and his family, they are forever grateful.
