Climbing Kilimanjaro for Kwale Eye Centre in Kenya

In January 2023, I'm climbing Kilimanjaro (entirely self-funded) to benefit the Eyes for East Africa (UK) charity, which supports the Kwale Eye Centre in Kenya.

Over the past 15 years, as my Fuchs Dystrophy has progressed, I've realised how much we take sight and eye-care for granted (I've had bilateral cataract surgery within a week of diagnosis). Over the same period, I've got to know and love the people of Kenya, where ophthalmic services are so much scarcer than in the UK, even if you can afford them. Cataract operations, in particular, can transform lives, but the Eye Centre provides broader eye-care services where required.

Through my climb, I'm raising money to support this vital work. Your donation will help provide this service from the Eye Centre and also support the mobile clinic that visits more remote locations where people (especially those with poor eyesight) might never travel as far as the coast (where the Eye Centre is located).

I know this ascent will not be easy, but it will be easier knowing that I have your support and that we're doing something important together. So, please help me reach my target! Note that Eyes for East Africa is run by volunteers with minimal costs, so virtually every penny they receive goes to the Eye Centre. Gift Aid if you can.
